Thrombolysis - Agents

Agents

Thrombolysis suggests the use of thrombolytic drugs, which are either derived from Streptococcus species, or, more recently, using recombinant biotechnology whereby tPA is manufactured by bacteria, resulting in a recombinant tissue plasminogen activator or rtPA.

Some commonly used thrombolytics are:

  • streptokinase
  • urokinase
  • Recombinant tissue plasminogen activators
    • alteplase (rtPA)
    • reteplase

Famous quotes containing the word agents:

Modern man’s capacity for destruction is quixotic evidence of humanity’s capacity for reconstruction. The powerful technological agents we have unleashed against the environment include many of the agents we require for its reconstruction.
    George F. Will (b. 1941)

Luckless is the country in which the symbols of procreation are the objects of shame, while the agents of destruction are honored! And yet you call that member your pudendum, or shameful part, as if there were anything more glorious than creating life, or anything more atrocious than taking it away.
    Savinien Cyrano De Bergerac (1619–1655)

The Times are the masquerade of the eternities; trivial to the dull, tokens of noble and majestic agents to the wise; the receptacle in which the Past leaves its history; the quarry out of which the genius of today is building up the Future.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
