Foundation
Due to growth in the Calumet City-Lansing Il area, Thornton Fractional South High School was opened in 1958 to subsidize the student population. The original high school in Calumet City that first opened in 1926 was renamed from Thornton Township High School to Thornton Fractional North High School. The Center for Academics and Technology was later built between the two high schools in Calumet City and opened for T.F. South and T.F. North students to take classes there that may not be available at one of the two high schools.

Famous quotes containing the word foundation:
“Laws remain in credit not because they are just, but because they are laws. That is the mystic foundation of their authority; they have no other.”
—Michel de Montaigne (15331592)
“Simplicity of life, even the barest, is not a misery, but the very foundation of refinement; a sanded floor and whitewashed walls and the green trees, and flowery meads, and living waters outside; or a grimy palace amid the same with a regiment of housemaids always working to smear the dirt together so that it may be unnoticed; which, think you, is the most refined, the most fit for a gentleman of those two dwellings?”
—William Morris (18341896)
“The foundation of humility is truth. The humble man sees himself as he is. If his depreciation of himself were untrue,... it would not be praiseworthy, and would be a form of hypocrisy, which is one of the evils of Pride. The man who is falsely humble, we know from our own experience, is one who is falsely proud.”
—Henry Fairlie (19241990)
