Architecture

The original design of the school complex involved that of an "Open Concept", resulting in the hallways in of the school placed around clusters of classrooms, rather than between rows of classrooms, as is the norm amongst school. This contributed to the lack of exterior windows in classroom; one of the only rooms to feature windows that face outside is ironically the dark room, which is used to develop film and is darkened when in use (the windows in ths room always have black bristol board taped over them to accommodate the required darkness). There are also windows in several art rooms, however, as they are screwed shut, it is necessary to use a screwdriver to open windows. The walls created to divide the classrooms on the second floor are fairly thin, and are held to the ceiling, floor, and to each other by magnets. However, the lack of windows does contribute to safety and security during lock down procedures.

Additionally, the fact that few classrooms have windows (excluding classroom door windows), and there is a government building located directly beside the parking lot of the school.

Famous quotes containing the word architecture:

Poetry is not only dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundations for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before.
    Audre Lorde (1934–1992)

In short, the building becomes a theatrical demonstration of its functional ideal. In this romanticism, High-Tech architecture is, of course, no different in spirit—if totally different in form—from all the romantic architecture of the past.
    Dan Cruickshank (b. 1949)
