The Way To The Stars - Poem

Poem

The following poetry, supposedly written by Archdale, was penned by John Pudney. It is found on a piece of paper and given by Penrose to Toddy after her husband's death. Later she gives it to Hollis' friend to read after he is killed.

FOR JOHNNY

Do not despair.........For Johnny-head-in-air;

He sleeps as sound.....As Johnny underground.

Fetch out no shroud....For Johnny-in-the-cloud;

And keep your tears....For him in after years.

Better by far..........For Johnny-the-bright-star,

To keep your head......And see his children fed.

Famous quotes containing the word poem:

    It must
    Be the finding of a satisfaction, and may
    Be of a man skating, a woman dancing, a woman
    Combing. The poem of the act of the mind.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

    This is the poem of the air,
    Slowly in silent syllables recorded;
    This is the secret of despair,
    Long in its cloudy bosom hoarded,
    Now whispered and revealed
    To wood and field.
    Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1809–1882)

    With this pen I take in hand my selves
    and with these dead disciples I will grapple.
    Though rain curses the window
    let the poem be made.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
