The Shops at Summerlin Centre

The Shops at Summerlin Centre is a proposed outdoor shopping center that was part of a mixed use development in Summerlin Centre, a Summerlin village. The mall will provide about 1,800,000 square feet (170,000 m2) of retail space. The Shops At Summerlin Centre were planned to be open by 2009; however, due to the economy, construction halted. The mall is now planned to open in late 2014.

The mall is being built by General Growth Properties with development beginning on 400 acres (160 ha) in 2007. The location is along Clark County 215 just south of Red Rock Casino. Because of the previous state of the economy, construction was halted in 2008. On February 24, 2010, GGP filed for bankruptcy, and spun off the Summerlin development and some of its other properties into The Howard Hughes Corporation. In 2012, Howard Hughes Corp. announced that the Shops at Summerlin Centre will resume construction and will open in late 2014 with Macy's and Dillard's being the major tenants.

Famous quotes containing the words shops and/or centre:

I, who cannot stay in my chamber for a single day without acquiring some rust,... confess that I am astonished at the power of endurance, to say nothing of the moral insensibility, of my neighbors who confine themselves to shops and offices the whole day for weeks and months, aye, and years almost together. I know not what manner of stuff they are of,—sitting there now at three o’clock in the afternoon, as if it were three o’clock in the morning.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Marriage and deathless friendship, both should be inviolable and sacred: two great creative passions, separate, apart, but complementary: the one pivotal, the other adventurous: the one, marriage, the centre of human life; and the other, the leap ahead.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
