The Russell Brand Show Prank Telephone Calls Row - Background

Background

From April 2006 through to October 2008, Russell Brand presented the weekly BBC radio show The Russell Brand Show. In almost every show Brand was joined by his co-host Matt Morgan who would often steer him in certain directions regarding what to talk about. However, following an argument about the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, which Brand hosted in September of 2008(and which led to him receiving death threats, due to his criticism of then-US President George W. Bush and the Jonas Brothers' purity rings), Morgan refused to perform on Brand's radio show. As a substitution, Brand called in a variety of his celebrity friends, including Noel Gallagher, Alan Carr and, most famously, Jonathan Ross, to co-present the show each week, . Commentators have stated that Morgan would never have allowed the calls to be made.

On 11 October 2008, David Baddiel co-hosted Brand's radio show. Baddiel recalled having met Georgina Baillie at Brand's home and being told that her grandfather was actor Andrew Sachs. According to Baddiel, Baillie said "Don't tell him I was here!"

Famous quotes containing the word background:

Pilate with his question “What is truth?” is gladly trotted out these days as an advocate of Christ, so as to arouse the suspicion that everything known and knowable is an illusion and to erect the cross upon that gruesome background of the impossibility of knowledge.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

... every experience in life enriches one’s background and should teach valuable lessons.
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)

I had many problems in my conduct of the office being contrasted with President Kennedy’s conduct in the office, with my manner of dealing with things and his manner, with my accent and his accent, with my background and his background. He was a great public hero, and anything I did that someone didn’t approve of, they would always feel that President Kennedy wouldn’t have done that.
