The Perch (Binsey) - Historic Jazz Venue

Historic Jazz Venue

From 1928 through 1948, the Perch was popular among Oxford University students as a venue to hear the latest jazz. Although it ceased to be a jazz venue after 1949, in 2009 the Perch was named by the Brecon Jazz Festival as one of 12 venues which had made the most important contributions to jazz music in the United Kingdom.

Famous quotes containing the words historic and/or jazz:

It is, all in all, a historic error to believe that the master makes the school; the students make it!
    Robert Musil (1880–1942)

The further jazz moves away from the stark blue continuum and the collective realities of Afro-American and American life, the more it moves into academic concert-hall lifelessness, which can be replicated by any middle class showing off its music lessons.
    Imamu Amiri Baraka (b. 1934)
