The People of Freedom

The People of Freedom (Italian: Il Popolo della Libertà, PdL) is the main centre-right political party in Italy.

The party was launched by Silvio Berlusconi on 18 November 2007 and officially founded in a party congress on 27–29 March 2009, when Forza Italia and National Alliance were merged. The party's leading members include Angelino Alfano (national secretary), Renato Schifani, Renato Brunetta, Roberto Formigoni, Maurizio Sacconi, Gianni Alemanno, Maurizio Gasparri, Mariastella Gelmini, Antonio Martino, Giancarlo Galan, Maurizio Lupi, Gaetano Quagliariello and Daniela Santanchè. The party formed Italy's government from 2008 to 2011 in coalition with the Northern League.

Since 28 April 2013 the PdL has been part of Enrico Letta's government of grand coalition with the Democratic Party, Civic Choice and the Union of the Centre. Alfano functions as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior.
