Aims
The Million Women Study was set up with the aim of recruiting 1,000,000 women in the UK into a cohort study, to provide answers to the following questions:
- What effects do combined estrogen and progestogen hormone replacement therapy (HRT) preparations have on breast cancer risk?
- Are breast cancers detected at screening in women who have used HRT or oral contraceptives different in terms of size and invasiveness from the cancers detected in women who have never used these hormones?
- How does HRT use affect the efficacy of breast cancer screening?
- How does HRT use affect mortality from breast cancer and other conditions?

Famous quotes containing the word aims:
“A lie is real; it aims at success. A liar is a realist.”
—Christina Stead (19021983)
“All who strive to live for something beyond mere selfish aims find their capacities for doing good very inadequate to their aspirations. They do so much less than they want to do, and so much less than they, at the outset, expected to do, that their lives, viewed retrospectively, inevitably look like failure.”
—Lydia M. Child (18021880)
“...a fixed aim furnishes us with a fixed measure, by which we can decide whether such or such an action proposed is worth trying for or not, and as aims must vary with the individual, the decisions of any two people as to the desirableness of an action may not be the same.”
—Anna C. Brackett (18361911)
