The Melancholy E.P.

The Melancholy E.P. is an EP by American heavy metal band Iced Earth, and was originally released in 1999 as a radio promotion; however, some were sold directly to the fans.

The EP contains three original Iced Earth songs and two covers: "Shooting Star" by Bad Company, and "Electric Funeral" by Black Sabbath.

Only 1500 hand-numbered copies exist of the first edition.

In 2001, the EP was re-released in greater numbers due to demand. The re-release contains the songs from the limited edition plus two new ones: one is a Judas Priest cover of "The Ripper", which had appeared on the limited edition release of The Dark Saga as a bonus track and on the Judas Priest tribute album A Tribute to Judas Priest: Legends of Metal Vol. 2, and the other is a live version of "Colors" (from Iced Earth), a song that didn't make it on to the Alive in Athens album, due to tracklisting mixups.

Famous quotes containing the word melancholy:

The shadow of the Venetian blind on the painted wall,
Shadows of the snake-plant and cacti, the plaster animals,
Focus the tragic melancholy of the bright stare
Into nowhere, a hole like the black holes in space.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
