The Last Ringbearer - Publication Status

Publication Status

The book has been translated into several languages, but it has not been commercially released in English. Several English language publishing houses have considered undertaking a translation, but the plans have always been abandoned due to the potential litigation from the Tolkien estate, which has been known for its strict objection to any derivative works, especially in English. In 2010 the book was translated into English by Yisroel Markov and released as a free and non-commercial ebook; this release has been officially approved by Eskov. Mark Le Fanu, general secretary of the Society of Authors, opined that despite it being non-commercial, the book still constitutes a copyright infringement.

Famous quotes containing the words publication and/or status:

An action is the perfection and publication of thought. A right action seems to fill the eye, and to be related to all nature.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

What is clear is that Christianity directed increased attention to childhood. For the first time in history it seemed important to decide what the moral status of children was. In the midst of this sometimes excessive concern, a new sympathy for children was promoted. Sometimes this meant criticizing adults. . . . So far as parents were put on the defensive in this way, the beginning of the Christian era marks a revolution in the child’s status.
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
