Views On Film Industry

Michael Gorfaine and Samuel Schwartz were asked to contribute to Moving Music: Conversations With Renowned Film Composers in 2003. In the introduction, they wrote:

"The individual arts of film and music could not be more distinct, and yet they are inexorably linked in the world of contemporary cinema. To experience a film without its musical score would be an empty experience. Imagine, most of the elements are there: the screenplay, the lighting, the production design, the editing, the actors' performances, the costumes, the sound ... but missing would be the emotional glue that binds it all together and elevates the process of filmmaking to the art and entertainment it strives to be. Music, whether symphonic or jazz, traditional or avant-garde, tonal or dissonant, is always the soul of a film's dramatic narrative."

Famous quotes containing the words views, film and/or industry:

Parents must begin to discover their children as individuals of developing tastes and views and so help them be, and see, themselves as thinking, feeling people. It is far too easy for a middle-years child to absorb an over-simplified picture of himself as a sloppy, unreliable, careless, irresponsible, lazy creature and not much more—an attitude toward himself he will carry far beyond these years.
    Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)

Film as dream, film as music. No art passes our conscience in the way film does, and goes directly to our feelings, deep down into the dark rooms of our souls.
    Ingmar Bergman (b. 1918)

Bankers, nepotists, contracts and talkies: on four fingers one may count the leeches which have sucked a young and vigorous industry into paresis.
    Dalton Trumbo (1905–1976)
