The Dark Ascent

The Dark Ascent is the third novel in Walter H. Hunt's Dark series, published in 2004. It follows immediately after the events of the The Dark Path. It follows Jackie Lappariere as she fights the Esqual and she finds the daughter of her Zor friend on a far off planet where her ship crashed. They discover that the Gyuyahar (the Zor sword of state) was used by villains and that Stone is Hesya, a Zor from thousands of years previous. However the story had been covered up by the first Zor high lord meaning that the legend they were following had a different outcome.

Famous quotes containing the words the dark, dark and/or ascent:

    The Past—the dark unfathom’d retrospect!
The teeming gulf—the sleepers and the shadows!
The past! the infinite greatness of the past!
For what is the present after all but a growth out of the past?
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)

But the dark changed to red, and torches shone,
And deafening music shook the leaves; a troop
Shouldered a litter with a wounded man,
Or smote upon the string and to the sound
Sang of the beast that gave the fatal wound.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

I lay awake awhile, watching the ascent of the sparks through the firs, and sometimes their descent in half-extinguished cinders on my blanket. They were as interesting as fireworks, going up in endless, successive crowds, each after an explosion, in an eager, serpentine course, some to five or six rods above the tree-tops before they went out.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
