The Conservation Volunteers - Overall Aims

Overall Aims

TCV's vision is "a better environment where people are valued, included and involved".

The organisation's aims include:

  • Enabling people to make a difference in their lives and improve the places around them.
  • Providing opportunities and choice for people to improve their lives.
  • Local mobilisation to have a global impact (e.g. through activities to combat climate change).
  • Delivering social and environmental equality.

On a practical level, TCV enables 628,000 volunteers per year to engage in conservation work in both the urban and the rural environment.

TCV also has a for-profit trading arm, BTCV Enterprises, which generates profit to feed back into and support the charity. The company has various government contracts to work with the long-term unemployed, aiming to improve skills and qualifications.

Famous quotes containing the word aims:

But, with whatever exception, it is still true that tradition characterizes the preaching of this country; that it comes out of the memory, and not out of the soul; that it aims at what is usual, and not at what is necessary and eternal; that thus historical Christianity destroys the power of preaching, by withdrawing it from the exploration of the moral nature of man; where the sublime is, where are the resources of astonishment and power.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Nature seems to have treasured up the depth of our mind talents and abilities that we are not aware of; it is the privilege of the passions alone to bring them to light, and to direct us sometimes to surer and more excellent aims than conscious effort could.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)
