The Colours Match

The Colours Match (Irish: Cluiche na nDathanna) is an annual rugby union fixture between the University of Dublin and University College Dublin. Traditionally, the match is held at Lansdowne Road stadium in Dublin, but at present the fixtures are played at Donnybrook Rugby Ground, the traditional home of the Leinster rugby union team.

The fixture was inaugurated in 1952 with the first title taken by University College Dublin R.F.C..

'Colours' are also arranged between Trinity and UCD in other sports, such as Gaelic football, hurling, soccer, swimming and water polo.

Famous quotes containing the words colours and/or match:

    The sounding cataract
Haunted me like a passion: the tall rock,
The mountain, and the deep and gloomy wood,
Their colours and their forms, were then to me
An appetite: a feeling and a love,
That had no need of a remoter charm,
By thought supplied, or any interest
    Unborrowed from the eye.—
    William Wordsworth (1770–1850)

    Dying smokers sense
Walking towards them through some dappled park
As if on water that unfocused she
No match lit up, nor drag ever brought near....
    Philip Larkin (1922–1986)
