The Chevy Chase Show - in Popular Culture

In Popular Culture

  • The Simpsons mentioned The Chevy Chase Show on their "138th Episode Spectacular", when actor Troy McClure mentioned he had previously hosted a documentary entitled The Five Fabulous Weeks of The Chevy Chase Show. In The Simpsons video game The Simpsons: Road Rage, Krusty will occasionally compliment fast drivers by lamenting that the ride was "over faster than Chevy Chase's talk show!".
  • It was later mentioned by The Onion, which joked that the program was entering its "sixth blockbuster season" in an alternate universe.
  • Family Guy mocked the show during the episode "Meet the Quagmires", which supposed that in an alternate universe, Chase had gone on to succeed Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show. Upon discovery of this Peter responded "We messed up bad, we messed up real bad!".

Famous quotes containing the words popular culture, popular and/or culture:

The lowest form of popular culture—lack of information, misinformation, disinformation, and a contempt for the truth or the reality of most people’s lives—has overrun real journalism. Today, ordinary Americans are being stuffed with garbage.
    Carl Bernstein (b. 1944)

If our entertainment culture seems debased and unsatisfying, the hope is that our children will create something of greater worth. But it is as if we expect them to create out of nothing, like God, for the encouragement of creativity is in the popular mind, opposed to instruction. There is little sense that creativity must grow out of tradition, even when it is critical of that tradition, and children are scarcely being given the materials on which their creativity could work
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)

The fact remains that the human being in early childhood learns to consider one or the other aspect of bodily function as evil, shameful, or unsafe. There is not a culture which does not use a combination of these devils to develop, by way of counterpoint, its own style of faith, pride, certainty, and initiative.
    Erik H. Erikson (1904–1994)
