Television
- The ending bass line and guitar solo of "The Chain" was used as the theme song for the BBC's Formula One coverage (the programme was called Grand Prix) from 1978 until the BBC's loss of TV rights to ITV Sport in 1997. ITV did not continue its use as the opening theme. However, "The Chain" returned in 2009 as the F1 theme song after the BBC regained the broadcasting rights to Formula One from ITV. The full programme of Grand Prix was broadcast worldwide, and thus "The Chain" is associated with F1 not just in Britain but across the world.
- The ending bass line was also featured in a British advertisement for the Fiat Supermirafiori in 1982, perhaps in recognition of the popularity of the song on BBC Sports programmes.
- A cover of the song by the band Tantric was used as the theme song for the HBO Documentary series Family Bonds.

Famous quotes containing the word television:
“Laughter on American television has taken the place of the chorus in Greek tragedy.... In other countries, the business of laughing is left to the viewers. Here, their laughter is put on the screen, integrated into the show. It is the screen that is laughing and having a good time. You are simply left alone with your consternation.”
—Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
“The television screen, so unlike the movie screen, sharply reduced human beings, revealed them as small, trivial, flat, in two banal dimensions, drained of color. Wasnt there something reassuring about it!that human beings were in fact merely images of a kind registered in one anothers eyes and brains, phenomena composed of microscopic flickering dots like atoms. They were atomsnothing more. A quick switch of the dial and they disappeared and who could lament the loss?”
—Joyce Carol Oates (b. 1938)
“The television critic, whatever his pretensions, does not labour in the same vineyard as those he criticizes; his grapes are all sour.”
—Frederic Raphael (b. 1931)
