The Burns Sisters - Description and History

Description and History

The Burns Sisters' sound is described as country-based folk and the trio have performed with Arlo Guthrie . The quintet released "The Burns Sisters Band" (Columbia) "endangered Species" (Columbia) and "Songs of the Heart" before older sister Sheila dropped out to devote more time to her family. The youngest sister,Terry, moved to Nashville and wrote for EMI Publishing, MCA Publishing and Larga Vista Publishing. Agreeing to continue as a trio, Annie, Marie and Jeannie switched their focus to acoustic music.

In 2012, the Burns Sisters released the album, The Hills of Ithaca. The title was inspired by a 1947 Woody Guthrie poem which the Burn Sisters sisters put to music after being given the unpublished version by Woody's relatives. The album also includes Bob Childers' song, "Prisoner of the Promised Land" written in Okemah, Oklahoma, the location of the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival. The album includes two songs by Jeannie Burns: "Underbelly Blues" which she co-wrote with Andrew Hardin – her partner in the duo Hardin Burns – and “Your Kiss,” which she wrote with Hardin and her sister, Marie.

Famous quotes containing the words description and/or history:

The next Augustan age will dawn on the other side of the Atlantic. There will, perhaps, be a Thucydides at Boston, a Xenophon at New York, and, in time, a Virgil at Mexico, and a Newton at Peru. At last, some curious traveller from Lima will visit England and give a description of the ruins of St Paul’s, like the editions of Balbec and Palmyra.
    Horace Walpole (1717–1797)

Classes struggle, some classes triumph, others are eliminated. Such is history; such is the history of civilization for thousands of years.
    Mao Zedong (1893–1976)
