Reception
The film received mostly mixed reviews from critics. In an interview on Inside the Actors Studio, John Goodman admitted that he was disappointed in his own performance.
The film was also not a financial success. It grossed over $19.9 million worldwide at the box-office and was pulled from theatres after five weeks.
Respected American film critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert both disliked the film, and included it on their Worst of 1992 episode on their program Siskel & Ebert.

“To the United States the Third World often takes the form of a black woman who has been made pregnant in a moment of passion and who shows up one day in the reception room on the forty-ninth floor threatening to make a scene.
