Lane Configuration
Loop 289 is a complete loop freeway with four to eight mainlanes. The freeways have frontage roads for nearly the entire route. It is one of only three complete freeway loops in Texas, the other two being IH-610 and BW-8/Sam Houston Tollway in Houston. At certain junctions, the freeway widens up to serve exit only lanes. At most interchanges with other highways, there are partial to full access ramps, that directly serve the mainlanes or frontage roads. An interchange is being built on the southwest side of the city with US 82 as part of the Marsha Sharp Freeway construction project.
