Terras Salgadas

The Terras Salgadas (Portuguese meaning the salty lands, also in the Capeverdean Crioulo forms of ALUPEC or ALUPEK and the São Vicente: Ponta d' Sol) is a flat terrain covering the northern half of the island of Maio in southeastern Cape Verde. The land is rich in saltpanes in which the terrain is named after and are located to the northwest. The salt are mined in small quantities, most of them are not mined. The saltpanes is located northwest of the nearest settlement of Morrinho. Distance is also located 30 km north of the island capital, Vila do Maio and west of Santo Antônio. Its elevations reach as high as 10 to 20 m.
