In December 2009, Heinz revealed that she is being treated for breast cancer. She revealed she has had several lumpectomies and will be following up with a targeted type of radiation therapy treatment called accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI). She has not revealed what type of APBI she will be receiving. APBI is a way of delivering radiation to the breast for five days or less, rather than six to eight weeks. Radiation oncologists are still studying this new method to see if it is as effective as the longer regimen.

Famous quotes containing the word health:

I am astonished at the singular pertinacity and endurance of our lives. The miracle is, that what is is, when it is so difficult, if not impossible, for anything else to be; that we walk on in our particular paths so far, before we fall on death and fate, merely because we must walk in some path; that every man can get a living, and so few can do anything more. So much only can I accomplish ere health and strength are gone, and yet this suffices.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Every violation of truth is not only a sort of suicide in the liar, but is a stab at the health of human society.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The middle years of parenthood are characterized by ambiguity. Our kids are no longer helpless, but neither are they independent. We are still active parents but we have more time now to concentrate on our personal needs. Our children’s world has expanded. It is not enclosed within a kind of magic dotted line drawn by us. Although we are still the most important adults in their lives, we are no longer the only significant adults.
