Route Description
State Route 8 (SR-8) begins concurrent to US-41 / US-76 at the Georgia border in Chattanooga. As Ringgold Road, SR-8 travels into downtown Chattanooga, where it becomes East Main Street. There, SR-8 leaves US-41 at the western national terminus of US-76 and heads north, concurrent to US-11 / US-64 / US-72 / SR-2. It crosses the Tennessee River after leaving the four routes and has an interchange with US-27 in Red Bank, whereupon it becomes concurrent to US-127. Along with US-127, it heads north to near Dunlap in Sequatchie County, where it splits from US-127 and joins SR-111. SR-8 soon leaves SR-111 and heads eastward to join with SR-56 in McMinnville.

“no arranged terror: no forcing of image, plan,

no propaganda, no humbling of reality to precept:
terror pervades but is not arranged, all possibilities
of escape open: no route shut,”
—Archie Randolph Ammons (b. 1926)
“The type of fig leaf which each culture employs to cover its social taboos offers a twofold description of its morality. It reveals that certain unacknowledged behavior exists and it suggests the form that such behavior takes.”
—Freda Adler (b. 1934)
