As per provisional data of 2011 census, Tenali municipality had a population of 164,649, out of which males were 81,324 and females were 83,325. The literacy rate was 82.63 per cent.

As per 2001 Indian census, Tenali had a population of 149,839. Both males and females constitute equal share in the population. Tenali has an average literacy rate of 79% which is higher than the national average of 59.5%. About 10% of the population in Tenali is under 6 years of age.
