Fan Culture
Media scholar Henry Jenkins has described the media convergence with participatory culture as:
...a "catalyst" for amateur digital film-making and what this case study suggests about the future directions popular culture may take. Star Wars fan films represent the intersection of two significant cultural trends—the corporate movement towards media convergence and the unleashing of significant new tools, which enable the grassroots archiving, annotation, appropriation, and recirculation of media content. These fan films build on long-standing practices of the fan community but they also reflect the influence of this changed technological environment that has dramatically lowered the costs of film production and distribution.Read more about this topic: Technological Convergence
Famous quotes containing the words fan and/or culture:
“Anyone with any real blood in his or her ... veins cannot help being a fan ....Being a true American and being a fan are synonymous.”
—Lulu Glaser (1874–1958)
“Our culture still holds mothers almost exclusively responsible when things go wrong with the kids. Sensing this ultimate accountability, women are understandably reluctant to give up control or veto power. If the finger of blame was eventually going to point in your direction, wouldn’t you be?”
—Ron Taffel (20th century)
