TCELS

The Thailand Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) is a non-profit organization that operates under the supervision of the Royal Thai Government. It was established on June 18, 2004 by Royal Decree of the King of Thailand. Dr Thongchai Thavichachart MD is its current President and CEO.

The focus of TCELS is to encourage investment and development of a life sciences industry in Thailand, as well as promoting life sciences research. It seeks to create partnerships with foreign investors and foster collaboration between educational institutions and the private sector.

Some examples of TCELS projects:

  • The Tsunami Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Center
  • The Pharmacogenomics Project is building a database of patients with Thalassemia, diabetes, cardio vascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, HIV/AIDS, lupus, Leukemia in children, DPD deficiency and post-traumatic stress disorder. This database will be used to investigate the influence of patients’ genetic characteristics on their response to drug treatment.
