Tapti River - Name

Name

The Tapi River originates in the Betul district from a place called Multai. The Sanskrit name of Multai is Mulatapi, meaning origin of Tāpī Mātā or the Tapti River.

Tāptī is the daughter of Surya, the Sun God and his wife, Chhaya. Tapti is also known as sister of Lord Shani.

The Tapi River in Thailand, was named after India's Tapti River in August 1915.
