The canal is function to provide enough water to irrigate the rice crops, it is also used by a water supply company to provide treated water as well as a freshwater fish farming for the villagers. At one time in the past, the canal was involved in the forest harvesting activities. It serves as a router in sweeping down the harvested timber to the 'Headworks' where the collection works is done for transport. Also there are myths from the older people that claimed there is a giant snake found during the construction of this canal. It led to the cessation of further construction work at Seri Tiram.
