Tampines Junior College - House System

House System

The house system was begun in 2006; replacing the practice of assigning students to houses based on their stream of study. Each cohort of J1 students is divided into six houses:

  • Eagle (red)
  • Falcon (orange)
  • Hawk (yellow)
  • Heron (purple)
  • Phoenix (blue)
  • Seagull (grey)

Each house is led by a house captain and vice-captain. The house captains also head committees that comprise student representatives drawn from each class under the house.

A track and field meet is held every year at the TPJC stadium where students represent their houses in events. Besides track and field events, students win points for their houses by cheerleading, mascot and flag design competitions.

Famous quotes containing the words house and/or system:

Till having failed at hugger-mugger farming
He burned his house down for the fire insurance
And spent the proceeds on a telescope
    To satisfy a lifelong curiosity
About our place among the infinities.
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

In a universe that is all gradations of matter, from gross to fine to finer, so that we end up with everything we are composed of in a lattice, a grid, a mesh, a mist, where particles or movements so small we cannot observe them are held in a strict and accurate web, that is nevertheless nonexistent to the eyes we use for ordinary living—in this system of fine and finer, where then is the substance of a thought?
    Doris Lessing (b. 1919)
