The Meath Hospital
The Meath Hospital, the oldest of the three hospitals, was founded in 1753. Situated in the'liberty' of the earl of Meath the hospital was opened to serve the sick and poor in the crowded area of the The Liberties.
In the 19th century the Meath Hospital achieved world-wide fame as a result of the revolutionary teaching methods and groundbreaking research carried out by Graves and Stokes, physicians of the hospital.
In more recent times the hospital developed specialised services in the fields of urology, psychiatry, orthopaedics, haematology, endocrinology and nephrology.

Famous quotes containing the words meath and/or hospital:
“To Meath of the pastures,
From wet hills by the sea,
Through Leitrim and Longford,
Go my cattle and me.”

“Radio put technology into storytelling and made it sick. TV killed it. Then you were locked into somebody elses sighting of that story. You no longer had the benefit of making that picture for yourself, using your imagination. Storytelling brings back that humanness that we have lost with TV. You talk to children and they dont hear you. They are television addicts. Mamas bring them home from the hospital and drag them up in front of the set and the great stare-out begins.”
—Jackie Torrence (b. 1944)
