Taj International Airport - Location

Location

The project was located in Jewar village near Greater Noida, near the Yamuna Expressway. This location was considered prime due to two reasons: It's proximity to India's most popular tourist spot and one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal (from where the airport also gets its name) and fast connectivity to the nation's capital with a connection time of 45 minutes from Greater-Noida. The Planning Commission gave its approval for a new international airport at Greater Noida after finding it commercially viable. The proposed airport was within 72 kilometres of Indira Gandhi International Airport(IGI), Delhi. Its operators, the GMR Group had protested against plans for another airport at Greater Noida, claiming that it would impact traffic and revenue generation. GMR has right of first refusal (RoFR) on new airport within 150 kilometres of the existing Delhi airport. The RoFR was to ensure that GMR gets preference in bidding for the Greater Noida airport in case its bid is within 10% of the highest bidder.
