Taiwan Independence Party

The Taiwan Independence Party 建國黨 (TAIP), otherwise known as the Taiwan Nation Party, is a political party in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

It is usually associated with the Pan-Green Coalition and supports Taiwan independence.

Disappointed by the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) gradual moderation of its support of Taiwan independence, some DPP members, many connected to Peng Ming-min's "Nation Building Association" formed the Taiwan Independence Party in 1996. However, the party has failed to win large-scale support, due to the lack of organizational skills and internal disagreements. It has largely been displaced as Taiwan's ideological independence party by the newly formed Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU).

Famous quotes containing the words independence and/or party:

The [nineteenth-century] young men who were Puritans in politics were anti-Puritans in literature. They were willing to die for the independence of Poland or the Manchester Fenians; and they relaxed their tension by voluptuous reading in Swinburne.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)

What is the disease which manifests itself in an inability to leave a party—any party at all—until it is all over and the lights are being put out?... I suppose that part of this mania for staying is due to a fear that, if I go, something good will happen and I’ll miss it. Somebody might do card tricks, or shoot somebody else.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
