Taipei Medical University (Chinese: 臺北醫學大學; Wade–Giles: T'ai-pei I-hsüeh Ta-hsüeh) is located in Taipei's Xinyi District. First founded as Taipei Medical College in 1960, it was renamed as Taipei Medical University in 2000. It is composed of seven colleges (College of Medicine, College of Oral Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Nursing, College of Public Health and Nutrition, College of Medical Science and Technology, and College of Humanity and Social Science) and three affiliated hospitals located throughout southern Taipei.
The campus is located at Wuxing Street, right behind Taipei Medical University Hospital. The school buildings have both classrooms as well as research labs. There is also a gymnasium, conference rooms, sports fields and swimming pool. There are currently 6,000 students, 418 full-time and 600 part-time faculty members. As of September 2010, there have been more than 31,000 TMU graduates.
From 1960 to 2002 the 22,150 graduates and alumni of Taipei Medical University worked in major medical institutions, private clinics, research institutes, the government, and business. These people, from all walks of life, have positively influenced Taiwan's medical health care system.
In 2012, Taipei Medical University was ranked as one of the World's Top 100 universities at which to study medicine, according to the QS World University Rankings.
