T. L. Hanna High School - Notable Alumni

Notable Alumni

  • Rafael Little (class of 2004) is a running back for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
  • Richard Shirley (class of 1972) was mayor of Anderson 1998-2006 and city councilman for twenty years prior.
  • Hall of Fame Baseball Player for the Boston Red Sox Jim Rice attended his final year of high school here in 1971. Rice attended T.L. Hanna during the first year of integration in Anderson which happened to be his senior year. Rice had attended Westside High School prior to that. Some people argue that the attendance lines were redrawn so T.L. Hanna could have Rice play for Hanna's athletic teams during his senior year. However, this argument does not completely make sense because prior to 1971, the schools were not divided by attendance lines, but rather, by race.
  • NASA astronaut Stephen D. Thorne (class of 1971) graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1975 and became a NASA astronaut in 1985. Tragically, his life was cut short in 1986 when he was killed in an aircraft accident in which he was a passenger.
  • Steven Brooks Hall (class of 2009) was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth round of the 2009 MLB draft. Selected number 136 overall.

Famous quotes containing the word notable:

Every notable advance in technique or organization has to be paid for, and in most cases the debit is more or less equivalent to the credit. Except of course when it’s more than equivalent, as it has been with universal education, for example, or wireless, or these damned aeroplanes. In which case, of course, your progress is a step backwards and downwards.
    Aldous Huxley (1894–1963)
