Famous quotes containing the words evangelical, church and/or america:

Chastity is a monkish and evangelical superstition, a greater foe to natural temperance even than unintellectual sensuality.
    Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792–1822)

The Church must be forever building, for it is forever decaying within and attacked from without....
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

In America every woman has her set of girl-friends; some are cousins, the rest are gained at school. Against them the Couple of Ehepaar is helpless and Man in their eyes but a biological interlude.
    Cyril Connolly (1903–1974)
