Symonds Yat - The Wye

The Wye

The River Wye at Symonds Yat has cut a deep gorge in the Carboniferous Limestone exposing impressive cliff faces, some of which are used for rock climbing. At nearby 'King Arthur's cave' on the Great Doward, there have been important archaeological discoveries including the remains of a hyena family and Sabre-toothed Cat bones.

Famous quotes containing the word wye:

The Wye is hush’d nor moved along,
And hush’d my deepest grief of all,
When fill’d with tears that cannot fall,
I brim with sorrow drowning song.
    Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)
