Sword of The Valiant

Sword Of The Valiant

Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a 1984 film starring Miles O'Keeffe, Trevor Howard, Lila Kedrova, Cyrielle Clair, Leigh Lawson, Peter Cushing, and Sean Connery. The film is loosely based on the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, written in the late 14th century, but the narrative differs substantially. This is the second time director Stephen Weeks adapts the traditional tale into a movie. His first try was Gawain and the Green Knight, starring singer Murray Head, and released in 1972.

    your bones,
    round rulers, round nudgers, round poles,
    numb nubkins, the sword of sugar.
    I feel the skull, Mr. Skeleton, living its

    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

    We soon saw, as he saw, that he was not to be pardoned or rescued by men. That would have been to disarm him, to restore to him a material weapon, a Sharp’s rifle, when he had taken up the sword of the spirit,—the sword with which he has really won his greatest and most memorable victories. Now he has not laid aside the sword of the spirit, for he is pure spirit himself, and his sword is pure spirit also.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    Cowards die many times before their deaths;
    The valiant never taste of death but once.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
