Extended Family
Not official members of the Royal Family but considered part of the Swedish Royal Court:
- Princess Margaretha, Mrs. Ambler, born on 31 October 1934.
- Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld, born on 2 June 1938.
- Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson, born on 3 August 1943.
The above additional sisters of the King remain princesses by title, but are no longer referred to as Princess of Sweden, nor styled Royal Highness. This resulted from their marriages to non-royal persons, which were not considered constitutionally appropriate dynastic alliances at that time and so were not approved by their grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf (for Margaretha and Désirée) or by their brother (for Christina). For similar marriages, several male relatives in the House of Bernadotte had given up their places in the line of succession to the Swedish throne and all royal titles (see Bernadotte af Wisborg). Since women were not entitled to succeed to the throne prior to 1979, the three sisters were allowed to keep the prefix "Princess" as an honorific.
- Countess Marianne Bernadotte of Wisborg (widow of the King's uncle Sigvard), née Lindberg on 15 July 1924
- Countess Gunnila Bernadotte of Wisborg (widow of the Kings's uncle Carl Johan), née Wachtmeister af Johannishus on 12 May 1923
- Kristine, Princess Bernadotte (widow of the King's grandfather's paternal cousin Prince Carl), née Rivelsrud on 22 April 1932
