Swampy Cree Language - Morphology

Morphology

Swampy Cree is a polysynthetic language that relies heavily on verbs. That is to say, many things that would be expressed in English through nouns or adjectives are expressed as verbs. In fact, Swampy Cree lacks adjectives at all. Instead, they use an intransitive form of a verb. For example, instead of saying "He is strong" in Cree it is closer to something like "He strongs".

Famous quotes containing the word morphology:

I ascribe a basic importance to the phenomenon of language.... To speak means to be in a position to use a certain syntax, to grasp the morphology of this or that language, but it means above all to assume a culture, to support the weight of a civilization.
    Frantz Fanon (1925–1961)
