Pashto is main language spoken in a specific dialect. Gujri and Punjabi Language (in Hindko dialect) are spoken by few. Urdu being National language is also spoken and understood.

The residents are referred to as Swabva'l. Swabi has been predominantly a pashtun populated distric with hindus living peacefully with them before the partition, and considerable fraction of the businesses were owned by them. Both Muslims and Hindus lived peacefully. After partition, the Hindus mass migrated to India and now the whole population is Pashtun of the Yousafzai and Mandanr tribe along with some hindkowans who live in Jangidher village. The area from Swat in the north to the banks of river Kabul in Nowshera District is inhabited by the Yousafzais. Like other Pashtuns, the origins of the Yousafzai tribe is unknown. Even today a few Hindus are found in some areas of Swabi. Tehsils of district Swabi are:

Aother pashtun tribe jadoon or gadoon is also living in the nothern part of swabi.
