Suryapet (i/ˈsuːrjɑːpeɪtə/) (Telugu: సూర్యాపేట) (Urdu: سریاپتہ ) is a major municipality in Nalgonda district in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. Suryapet town has historical recognition as ‘Gate Way of Telangana’. It is sometimes referred as Bhanupuri (Telugu: భానుపురి). It lies on the National Highway 9 and is equidistant from the capital city of Andhra Pradesh Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Suryapet is India’s first ‘waste-compliant’ city. It has won many awards for its cleanliness from the Andhra Pradesh government as well as Indian government and got the Best Municipality award under BJP reign.
