At present, BJP is the ruling party with majority. Surat Municipal Corporation is one of the wealthiest municipal corporation in India. SMC won G2C Award with 1st Rank in India in Transparency & Accountability in e-governance in year 2012 from Urban Development Dept & Janaragh NGO, SMC also won 7th place in India in e-governance practice. Surat has the maximum number of flyovers in Gujarat .
