Sunrise Senior Living

On August 22, 2012, Sunrise was purchased by Health Care REIT for an estimated $845 million.

Sunrise has pursued an aggressive growth strategy, partnering with real estate firms rather than owning and operating its own facilities. In 2010 Sunrise closed all of its locations in Germany.

In 2003 the name of the company was changed from Sunrise Assisted Living to Sunrise Senior Living.

In 2008, Paul Klaassen stepped down as CEO and was replaced by Mark Ordan.

To mark the 30th Anniversary of Sunrise Senior Living in 2011, the company changed the Sunrise logo from green to orange.

In 2011, Sunrise Senior Living employs approximately 31,000 and operated more than 300 retirement communities internationally.

Famous quotes containing the words sunrise, senior and/or living:

... possibly there is no needful occupation which is wholly unbeautiful. The beauty of work depends upon the way we meet it—whether we arm ourselves each morning to attack it as an enemy that must be vanquished before night comes, or whether we open our eyes with the sunrise to welcome it as an approaching friend who will keep us delightful company all day, and who will make us feel, at evening, that the day was well worth its fatigues.
    Lucy Larcom (1824–1893)

I suffer whenever I see that common sight of a parent or senior imposing his opinion and way of thinking and being on a young soul to which they are totally unfit. Cannot we let people be themselves, and enjoy life in their own way? You are trying to make that man another you. One’s enough.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Recognise the cunning man not by the corpses he pays homage to but by the living writers he conspires against with the most shameful weapon, Silence, or the briefest review.
    Edward Dahlberg (1900–1977)
