Sultan Kudarat - People

People

As of the 2000 census, Sultan Kudarat has a total population of 586,505. The province formerly had a Muslim majority, but Christian migrants now outnumber Muslims and highlanders.

Maguindanaons live in the coastal towns of the province. Tribal groups with settlements in the province include the Blaan, Iranons, Tirurays and Manobo.

The Ilonggos constitute the majority of the Christian population, with their native language which is Ilonggo as the province's dominant language. Ilocano and Cebuano are also spoken in some municipalities. Maguindanao is the local language of the Muslim population. Ilocanos and Ilonggos are the only ethno-linguistic dwellers of the province who are not natives of Mindanao since Cebuanos inhabited the island around 18th century.

Famous quotes containing the word people:

City people try to buy time as a rule, when they can, whereas country people are prepared to kill time, although both try to cherish in their mind’s eye the notion of a better life ahead.
    Edward Hoagland (b. 1932)

“The wonder is I didn’t see at once.
I never noticed it from here before.
I must be wonted to it that’s the reason.
The little graveyard where my people are!...”
    Robert Frost (1874–1963)

The funny part of it all is that relatively few people seem to go crazy, relatively few even a little crazy or even a little weird, relatively few, and those few because they have nothing to do that is to say they have nothing to do or they do not do anything that has anything to do with the war only with food and cold and little things like that.
    Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)
