Suite Bergamasque - Structure

Structure

The Suite bergamasque consists of four movements:

  1. "Prélude"
  2. "Menuet"
  3. "Clair de lune"
  4. "Passepied"

The suite has been orchestrated by many composers, including André Caplet, Leopold Stokowski and Lucien Cailliet. Dimitri Tiomkin arranged "Clair de Lune" for organ for his musical score for Warner Brothers' 1956 film Giant.

The first three movements include a common motif:

  • Prélude: F - E - F - E - D (bar 11)
  • Menuet: G - F - G - F - E (bar 6)
  • Clair de lune: F - E♭ - F - E♭ - D♭ (bars 1-2)
