Sugar Labs is a non-profit foundation whose mission is to produce, distribute, and support the use of the Sugar learning platform. Sugar Labs supports the community of educators and software developers who want to extend the platform and who have been creating Sugar Activities. A community project, Sugar is available under the open-source GNU General Public License (GPL) and free to anyone who wants to use or extend it.
Sugar Labs is a member of the Software Freedom Conservancy, an organization composed of free software (FLOSS) projects. On 2009-07-23, Recycle USB.com went live with a program to reflash used USB keys with the Sugar software and donate them to schools. On 2009-12-08, Sugar Labs announced the availability of Sugar on a Stick v2 Blueberry, which incorporates Sugar Release 0.86.
