Suffield High School - Curriculum - Agriculture Program

Agriculture Program

Suffield High School has one of the largest agricultural education departments in the region. Enrollment for this program is competitive as it provides a unique experience at an academically competitive high school. This program, which acts as a regional magnet school, services students from surrounding towns such as Windsor Locks, Enfield, Canton, and several other towns in Hartford County. Enrolled students attend required curricular courses as well agricultural education courses over their four year high school career. A few of the classes offered as of October 11, 2007, are Floral Design, Food Sciences, Landscaping (a version through which students may earn UConn college credit), Small Animal Pet Care, Aquaculture, Natural Resources Management and Wildlife Management. Students are required to create and maintain an active work study program called Supervised Agricultural Education (SAE), and have the opportunity to compete in various academic and trade related competitions.

Famous quotes containing the words agriculture and/or program:

But the nomads were the terror of all those whom the soil or the advantages of the market had induced to build towns. Agriculture therefore was a religious injunction, because of the perils of the state from nomadism.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Realizing that his time was nearly spent, he gave full oral instructions about his burial and the manner in which he wished to be remembered.... A few minutes later, feeling very tired, he left the room, remarking, ‘I have no disposition to leave this precious circle. I love to be here surrounded by my family and friends.’ Then he gave them his blessing and said, ‘I am ready to go and I wish you goodnight.’
