Stuart Highway - Flying Doctors

Flying Doctors

The Royal Flying Doctor Service uses the highway as an emergency landing strip and sections of the highway are signed to that effect. These sections of highway have been specially selected and prepared for the landing of aircraft which only takes place after the piece of road has been closed by the police.

Famous quotes containing the words flying and/or doctors:

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you’re chewing on life’s gristle
    Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this’ll help turn things out for the best ...
And ... always look on the bright side of life.
—Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Mr. Frisbee III (Eric Idle)

One of the fundamental reasons why so many doctors become cynical and disillusioned is precisely because, when the abstract idealism has worn thin, they are uncertain about the value of the actual lives of the patients they are treating. This is not because they are callous or personally inhuman: it is because they live in and accept a society which is incapable of knowing what a human life is worth.
    John Berger (b. 1926)
