Bell was a member of the French think tank, the Fondation pour l'Innovation Politique. He had been a prolific self-publishing author, writing many short stories and novels in his later years, including a pornographic novel called Paris Sixty-Nine. He was also a regular newspaper columnist, including in the Mail on Sunday.
