Stronge Baronets - Tynan Abbey

Tynan Abbey

The lands of Tynan Abbey are held by the grandson of Sir Norman, 8th baronet.

Members of the family include Sir Norman and Sir James, both politicians, who were killed by the IRA. The family seat, Tynan Abbey, was bombed during the attack and burned to the ground; its ruin has since been demolished.

Famous quotes containing the words tynan and/or abbey:

Art and ideology often interact on each other; but the plain fact is that both spring from a common source. Both draw on human experience to explain mankind to itself; both attempt, in very different ways, to assemble coherence from seemingly unrelated phenomena; both stand guard for us against chaos.
    —Kenneth Tynan (1927–1980)

The Abbey always reminds me of that old toast, “Above lofty timbers, the walls around are bare, echoing to our laughter, as though the dead were there.”
    Garrett Fort (1900–1945)
